Moving can be an exciting time, whether it’s a to new city or in the same one you’ve lived in your whole life! It can be a new start, new adventure and new chapter. But it doesn’t come without its fair share of stress. A new home means a new address, and there’s a lot of people you have to notify of your move!

To get you started, below are the 10 most important people, places and organizations to notify of your address change after you move:


1. Post Office

Submit a permanent change-of-address request to the post office so your USPS mail is rerouted/forwarded to your new address. This can easily be done online at usps.com and can save you a lot of hassle.


2. Employer

Notify your current and past employers of your new address in order to receive any communications regarding your compensation, benefits and more.


3. Government Entities

This includes the DMV, IRS, voter registration, Social Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, Veteran Affairs and any other agencies you have given your personal information too.


4. Financial Institutions

Including your banks, lenders, credit card companies and investments you are involved in.


5. Insurance

Such as your health, dental, life, auto, pet, and home/renter’s insurance companies.


6. Home Services

This is all of your utilities, which are likely needed to set up your new home, such as gas, water, power, internet/TV/phone, waste management, cleaning and landscaping companies.


7. Care and Service Providers

These are people like your family physician, pediatrician, dentist, veterinarian, babysitters, lawyers, etc.
